Case Study: Mapping a Residential Development in 3D

The Challenge

An active residential development site in Central Florida needed current, accurate site documentation the whole project team could actually use — not a folder of disconnected photos. The requirement: a top-down map, terrain data for grading review, and a way for stakeholders to see the site in three dimensions without installing GIS or CAD software.

What We Flew

A single RTK-corrected photogrammetry mission using our DJI enterprise mapping platform, with real-time corrections from the Florida DOT reference network — centimeter-level positioning without laying ground control across the whole site.

What One Flight Produced

• Orthomosaic map — a georeferenced, top-down aerial map of the entire site, ready for AutoCAD, GIS, or Google Earth
• Digital Surface Model & contours — colorized elevation data and topographic contour lines for grading and drainage review
• Point cloud — survey-style 3D data in LAS format for the engineering team
• Interactive 3D site model — a photorealistic digital twin streamed in the browser, with built-in height measurement
• Google Earth KMZ overlays — every layer packaged so anyone on the team can open it with zero training

The Outcome
